Gichin Funakoshi

Considered by many to be the "Father of Karate-Do", Master Funakoshi was instrumental in bringing karate to the mainstream of Japan, and developing it into a Japanese martial art (Budo). His followers created the style of Shotokan, named after Funakoshi's dojo in Tokyo.
